General Requirements and Scope of Work 1. The following outline specification covers repair of concrete retaining walls in three areas. The work is divided into Repair Areas I, II and III. Refer to sketches 1 and 2 for scope of work in plan view, and sketches 3 through 7 for sections and details of work. Repair Area III shows two possible repair solutions, attemate prices shall be submitted for each. 2. All means and methods of construction shall be the sole responsibility of the contractor, including all temporary bracing, support and protection of the new and existing structure as required to maintain safe and stable conditions. 3. Field verify all existing conditions and dimensions and coordinate all dimensions. Notify the designer of any discrepancies that would affect the installation as shown. 4. All work shall conform to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Building Code, 6th Edition. 5. File all necessary building and access permits and make notifications to governing authorities including the Salem Building Department. 6. Leave the area of work in a clean and usable fashion after work is complete. 7. Provide schedule of work to owner and engineer in order to schedule inspections and to allow property management to secure the affected portions of building. 8. The property line falls along the outside edge of all walls. Limited access can be arranged for access to perform work from the other side of the walls, and shall be discussed with the Owner. 9. Damage to adjacent finish landscaping shall be minimized. Area of proposed impact shall be discussed with the Owner and accommodation made for special treatment of speck plantings or features. Following 18 Loring Avenue, Garden Wall Repairs July 2005 Salem, MA work, Contractor shall grade areas of construction impact enough to receive new plantings, unless noted otherwise on sketches. Proposal shall include any anticipated repair of neighbor's property (fences and/or tool shed). Modifications to concrete wall repairs that minimizes impact to existing finish landscape will be entertained by the Engineer. 10. All details shall be considered typical and applicable to all similar conditions unless otherwise noted or indicated. B. Site Preparation Temporary Shorina and Bracina 1. Locate all utilities and maintain and keep utilities in service and protected from damage. 2. Provide sheeting, shoring and bracing as may be required to brace retained soil and walls as needed to maintain stability. 3. Shoring / bracing shall be of any material which is suitable for the application. Timber shoring shall be fully dried and all end grain shall be sealed to prevent absorption of water and associated swelling. 4. Disassemble existing concrete pillars as needed to perform specified repair work. Precautions shall be taken to ensure that pillars are not damaged during disassembly, and shall be carefully stored on site and protected from damage. C. Earth Support Systems 1. Perform / arrange soil test borings including blow tests. Soil Exploration Corp. of Leominster, MA (978.840.0391) quoted $1700 for Geoprobe 6610 to perform the soil test borings. General Requirements and Scope of Work 1. The following outline specification covers repair of concrete retaining walls in three areas. The work is divided into Repair Areas 1, 11 and III. Repair Area III shows two possible repair solutions, alternate prices shall be submitted for each. 2. All means and methods of construction shall be the sole responsibility of the contractor, including all temporary bracing, support and protection of the new and existing structure as required to maintain safe and stable conditions. 3.
