Dear Inspectional Services Director,
This letter shall serve to notify you that the renovation of Red Lulu located at 92-96 Lafayette
Street in Salem, MA shall fall under the definition of a Level 2 Alteration as defined by the 2009
IEBC. Which requires the following.
1. All new construction elements, components, systems and spaces shall comply with the
requirements of the International Building Code.
2. The interior finish of walls and ceilings in exit corridors in any work area shall comply with
the requirements of the International Building Code.
3. Fire Protection: Automatic Sprinkler Systems shall be provided in accordance with the
requirements of Section 704.2.1 and 704.2.5 installation requirements shall be in
accordance with the International Building Code.
4. Fire Alarm and Detection: An approved fire alarm system shall be installed in accordance
with Section 704.4.1 and 704.4.3.
5. Mean of Egress: The means of egress shall comply with the International Building Code.
6. Structural: There is no structural work being done.
7. Electrical: All newly installed electrical equipment and wiring related to work being done
in the restaurant shall comply with Chapter 5 of the IEBC.
8. Mechanical: No mechanical work is being preformed.
9. Plumbing: All work shall be in compliance with the International Building Code.
10. Energy Conservation: Level 2 Alterations to existing buildings or structures are permitted
without requiring the entire building or structure to comply with the energy requirements
of the International Energy Conservation Code. The alterations shall conform to the
requirements of the International Energy Conservation Code as they relate to new
construction only.
