You should understand that. the Salem Fire Department is but one of several
departments within the City of Salem to which information can be obtained
concerning flammable liquid storage, releases, or hazardous' wastes. It is
quite probable that this department would have no knowledge of the
presence of ha7.ardous wastes on any particular site since this department
does not do independent hnrni daus waste investigation
To assist you in conducting your environmental assessment of the site, we
are able to inform you as indicated by the report attached and/or
enclosures.
As stated above, the records of the Salem Fire Department do not permit
you to rely upon the informata.on contained in this letter as being either
definitive or complete. The 'information in this letter is provided to you
as a courtesy in conducting your investigation, and is provided on the
express condition that no liability shall attach or be asserted against

With respect, to your request for information relative to properties on or
adjacent to #4$1 Broadway, our records indicate the following:
1. The building was heated by oil when an inspection of the heating
system was made on April 26, 1978. Fuel oil was stored
underground in a 2,000 gallon storage tank in the right rear of
the building.
2. On August 12, 1948, a license was issued to keep and store
gasoline in an underground tank of 1,000 gallons capacity.
On December 3, 1963, a permit was issued to Bursaw Oil Corp. to .
remove one (1) 1,000 gallon storage tank (leaking) and to install
one (1) 1,000 gallon replacement tank.
