I acknowledge your letter of August 11 , 1989 , which was
received today, regarding the above_referenced property.
Pursuant to our telephone conversations, please be
informed that application has been made, in accordance with
the procedure set forth over the telephone to my secretary by
somebody in your office, in a timely manner . Applications
were filed with the Historical Commission, as instructed,
preliminary to filing with the building department. Copies
of these applications are attached hereto so that they may be
made part of your file with regard to your letter of
August 11 , 1989 .
As I indicated to you over the telephone, there will
never be any lack of cooperation from me or this office with
respect to adhering to the City of Salem Sign Ordinance.

Please be advised that you are in violation of the City of Salem
Sign Ordinance, Sections 3-39 and 3-43. The sign overhanging the walk at
405 A Essex Street is neither bonded or in use, and therefore must be re-
moved.
Please contact this office within seven (7) days of receipt of this
letter. If no action is taken within seven (7) days, we will seek a
complaint against you in Salm District Court.

Dear Mr. Harris:
Thank you for your letter of July 17, 1989 regarding the
above_referenced property. In accordance with our
conversation today, Cooper ' s Realty Trust will be applying
for a sign permit and furnishing the appropriate bond for. a
sign which overhangs a public way.
As I explained to you today, we have old photographs of
Cooper ' s Garage indicating the existing sign post and frame
has been on location for many years now, and it is the
intention of the trustees of the garage to continue to use
the sign appropriately in conjunction with the gradual
historic renovation of the property.
