I have completed my review of this NO1 and have posted the following comments:
1) A. narrative describing the project and its components would be helpful. 2) #20 Freeman
Road is being constructed within 10 feet of the wetland line and the erosion controls will be
placed within 5 feet of the wetland line. The distance should be increased to the extent
possible. 3) A profile of the proposed bridge crossing should be provided.
Thanks, Heidi

Re: Notice of Intent—Subdivision of 20,22 and 24 Freeman Road Salem,MA
' Dear Salem Conservation Commission Members;
' This Notice of Intent addresses the Commissions concerns regarding the extension of Freeman
Road and the construction of 3 single family homes. The contiguous parcel consisting of 20, 22
and 24 Freeman Road has been subdivided to conform to the listed lot and setback requirements.
Throughout the plan, the direct impacts are limited to the 100 foot buffer zone. Most of the subject
property lies within the 100 foot buffer zone. The entirety of the subject property and bordering
vegetative wetland(BVW)lie within USDA soil zone vk4kHatfield-Hollis-Rock outcrop complex
. This inland wetland occurs on both sides of Freeman Road and is interconnected by an
' intermittent stream.
4-
t
' Figure 1:The photo above and on the left is of the wetland area on site. The photo on the right is the
upland habitat.
' The indication of the BVW on the upper terrace is wetland vegetation hydric soil and buttressed
roots which are evidence of hydrologic conditions or lack of oxygen in the soil through several
months of the year. Much of the wooded area within the plotted area flagged as wetlands consists
1 of Red Maple High Bush Blueberry, moss species, cinnamon fern, and other indigenous wetland
species (see attached data forms).
Having documented Data Point Plots on November 21, 2014 Robert E. Marini ofNativeTEC
1 delineated the Bordering Vegetated Wetlands on January 5th and 6' 2015
• Pink Flags numbering N1-N 19; N1 a—22a and N1 b to N 27b delineate the BVW
' • Plots were flagged with orange ribbon along a transect with orange ribbon and labeled NIL
IA (uplands) and NL IB (wetlands) to sample for the location of the BVW. Their
corresponding DEP Data Forms are attached. We have used the NRCS Web Soil Survey
1 to compile soil identifications and compare them with onsite findings where we have
sampled using an auger at designated data points IA and IB.
• There are no Estimated Habitat Areas found within the area based on information
1 provided by Mass GIS OLIVER.

1 Figure 2: The photo on top is of the angered 2 feet of soil from the upland end of the transect while
the photo below is of the wetland soil analysis.
1 There are no Certified Vernal Pools within the limits of concern of this site. There are 2 potential
vernal pools noted on the Mass GIS (Oliver) Map in the vicinity of the site. This information has
1 been updated by the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program of Massachusetts
Division of Fisheries and Wildlife as of January 2015.
1 Please contact us if you have any questions.
Very truly yours,
