Re: Board of Health Decision/Sanitazy Code Violation— 10 Howard Street
Dear Ms.Zimmer:
On Tuesday, September 13,2022,the Salem Board of Health conducted a public hearing relative to an
appeal of a sanitary code violation cited in the order to correct dated August 10, 2022. At this meeting,
you had the opportunity to be heard by the Board regarding the requirement in the order that you hire a
pet control operator"who is neither the property owners nor an associate of the property owners".
Through your attorney the argument was made that as licensed pest control operator you should be
allowed to continue to provide pest control to the property. Additionally, the argument was made that the
Inspector did not have the authority to require a third party to conduct the pest control.
The Health Agent informed the Board that there have been issues concerning pest activity at this address
over the years and Ms.Zimmer has been allowed to act as the exterminator. However, as it appeared that
your efforts were not effective it was reasonable to require a licensed 3rd party to conduct the
exterminations.
After discussion, the Board voted to allow you to continue to act as the exterminator at 10 Howard Street.
Additionally, they voted to require you to submit detailed pest control reports to the department. Please
submit a recent report outlining the current steps you are taking to address the pest issues at this property
and any future reports for your extermination activities at this address.
On,.iehalf of t Board,
I
David Greenbaum
Health Agent
