Tremblay SALEM BUILDING INSPECTOR One Salem Green Salem, MA 01970 September 14, 1994 Dear Mr . Tremblay, Thank you for your letter of September 6 regarding property at 48 Broadway in Salem. I have referred your letter over to Mr. Chris Porter, owner of the business. I have spoken to him recently. He advised that he has been in contact with your office on several occasions, and that Chris has, in fact , submitted official drawings to you outlining his re-construction plans. I am sure he will comply to your requirements and will cooperate fully with your suggestions. He has been waiting for your work permits. As I understand, the vehicles are his, being stored temporarily for use at a later time . Also, the equipment in the back yard are lobster pools, heating units, refrig- eration and other recently acquired systems to be installed in the building soon; and, are simply being kept until then . I am unaware of broken windows, which I 'm sure he' ll repair . Chris is an enterprising, Intelligent young man , honest and energetic , working very hard and long hours to develop a business which is, in fact , a wholesale seafood distributorship . This building has served as a successful wholesale distribution warehouse since the mid-forties. Chris has worked diligently for many months to establish a strong clientele base of local seafood users throughout the greater North Shore . He has been continually cleaning the premises and planning re-designs to suit his expansion ideas and his ambition dreams. I am confident that Chris will maintain the property well and in keeping with your standards as soon as, and during the time while he completes his various projects. MAY. 17, 1979 DECISION ON PETITION SUBMITTED BY WALTER SMITH, (OWNER) CONCERNING SALEM PLATING CO. , LOCATED AT 48 BROADWAY (INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT). A hearing on this petition was held on May 17, 1979 with the following members of the Board of Appeals present: James Boulger, Chairman; Arthur LaBrecque; Douglas Hopper; John Nutting; and JosephPiemonte. Notices were sent postpaid to abutters and others and duly published in the Salem Evening News on May 3, and 10, 1979 in accordance with Mass. General Laws. Atty. John Serafini represented the Petitioner before the Board to petition for a Special Permit to extend a non-conforming -structure to provide for additional interior storage area and that the proposed addition is not unreasonable in size. He stated that neighboring business has agreed to provide more parking spaces if they are needed, The Board voted to deny the petition requested. The Board noted that the question of hardship was not proven in that the Petitioner had alternatives available to him that were acceptable and that the lot was greatly undersized. The Board found that it could not grant the Special Permit requested without derogating from the intent of the Salem Zoning Ordinances. SPECIAL PERMIT DENIED. A )W- fakes H.
