Re: Well Water Analysis
Dear Mr. Russell:
Enclosed are the completed test results of the Baker's Island well water samples
collected on August 17, 1989 by a member of this department.
The lab analysis performed by S.P. Engineering revealed that only the "Coast
Guard Upper Well" passed the criteria for acceptable drinking water.
Last years analysis performed by Salem and Beverly Water Supply Board also
revealed that only the "Coast Guard Upper Well" met drinking water standards.
It is the position of this department that the remaining sources not be used
for drinking water or cooking. The presence of coliform in water indicates
the possible presence of pathogenic organisms.
The Health Department recommends contacting a professionally recognized
Environmental Consulting Firm for any assistance they could provide in obtaining
safe drinking water from wells currently not meeting drinking water standards.
The Department respectfully requests you notify all property owners and/or
tenant of the laboratory results.
If you have any questions please contact this office.

Dear Mr. Moser:
Enclosed are the complete test results of the samples taken for the wells
(drinking water supply) located on Baker's Island in Salem Harbor. We bring
to your attention that several wells on the island have a coliform count.
It is advised by this department that the water from these wells should not be
used for human consumption and that if the water from these wells be used for
other purposes, i.e. , bathing, or dish or clothes washing, that it be boiled
first.
Due to increased negative lab results and well conditions it 's the recommendation
of this department that a licensed firm that services drinking water wells be
consulted for any assistance they could provide concerning those wells with
coliform counts.
If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to call this office at
