Dear Mr. Powers:
Per our conversation of this date, we have agreed that there
is no need to obtain a change of occupancy permit for our
Building No. 13 as this building had been ,used by the
National Guard as a maintenance area and Parker Brothers
is using it for the same purpose.
We have made no major changes to the building; however,
have taken steps to correct the minor problems you and
Lt. Goggin pointed out during your visit last week.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
Very truly yours,

RE: Parker Brothers Warehouse
Dear Mr. Powers:
After our joint site visit and subsequent calculations, I find that the
structure is marginal in the direction of the 52" x 11" purlins. The structure
is rated at 30 psf line load based on the assumption that the timbers are select
fir. An imposed snow load of 34.5 psf was noted during investigation. Snow removal
was in progress at this time and I suspect snow load was even higher, thereby
causing deflection in purlins.
Visual examination mandates that some purlins with excessive knots must be
plated to insure against future failure.
My conclusion is that the structure is minimal and must be shored until ex-
traneous loads are removed, but in an unloaded situation satisfies the 30 psf
City requirement.
Very truly yours,
Gi✓GG

Attention: Mr. Daniel O'Brien, Jr.
Gentlemen:
Subject: Job 2264
We are transmitting two copies of the building plans for the Parker Bros. addition.
A recent telephone conversation with Mr. Mitchell clarified the need for a detector
meter on the St. Peter Street 8" water main because of unaccounted losses. The re-
quirement of separating fire and domestic mains is allowed for in our plumbing
design where we intend to consolidate the domestic water meters to the one existing
4" meter (see Drawing M-2).
May we have your requirements with respect to our Drawing FP-1, and the following
questions?
1. We prefer to eliminate the valve pits A & B in preference to underground
valves as shown in our alternate detail with the check valves serviced
by precast manholes.
2. Will a detector meter be required at our pit "A" location in addition
to the St. Peter Street main? May these meters be equipped with exten-
sion heads for street level accessibility?
3. May we eliminate the siamese connections shown in the pits "A" and "B"
location and depend on fire department pumpers to feed from the hydrant
at the southwest corner of Rust and Bridge to the new hydrant immediately
north of pit "A" and similarly for St. Peter Street?
4. Is there a city requirement relative to local riser alarms? If so, may
all electric alarms be used, such as ADT?

Mr. Daniel J. O'Brien, Jr.
Inspector of Buildings
City Hall
Salem, Massachusetts
Dear Mr. O'Brien:
It was my pleasure to meet you and discuss the plans of the new warehouse
facility for Parker Brothers, Inc. in Salem.
This letter is to confirm that we will send you two copies each of:
1. Survey of land that is being made by Essex Survey Service.
2. Plot plan showing buildings to be torn down and per cent of
area coverage of existing buildings and proposed building.
These will be in your hands by October 29 so that you can advertise for your
meeting with the zoning commission of November 18.
You mentioned that there is a 20-day wait after a zoning variance, before con-
struction can begin. You stated that this 20-day waiting period would be
waived so that we could start driving piles on week of November 25. We assume
that this means you will issue a building permit to the pile contractor on the
week of November 25.
If there are any questions concerning the zoning variance or the start of con-
struction on the Parker Warehouse, it would be appreciated if you would contact
either Mr. Bernie Edstrom or myself in Minneapolis.
Sincerely,
 a., P
