Dear Mr. Gallant:
As you requested, this letter should summarize the results of the meeting.
I. Fire wall with a one hour door installed between display area and lower display area
and lower display area. Timetable for this work will be sixty (60) days.
2. Construction of ammunition bunker to be completed in sixty (60) days. Plans to
be approved by Building Department.
3. Fire alarm and burglar system updates sixty (60) days.
Sixty (60) days will bring up to October 5, 1999. If you have any please contact our
office or Fire Prevention.

RE' Gun Shop
Dear Mr. Gallant:
As a result of recent inspections of your property located at 163 Boston Street, several
problems were identified.
1. Fire alarm system- not operating and in need of updating.
2 Gun shop in basement; not allowed.
3. Storage of powder in basement; not allowed.
The department reviewed your building layout and compared the existing uses with the
current building codes.
The combination of business residences and high hazard uses could not be built under
today's codes.
However, because your business has existed prior to current codes, we can make some
exceptions. This department will require you to make some improvements to your
property.
I. Your gun shop business needs to be moved to the first floor as well as storage of
powder and ammunition.
2. Storage of ammunition and powder will follow all City of Salem Fire Department
regulations. This would include a Fire Department approved vault or other approved
storage system and compliance will all fire regulations.
4. A burglar system will be required.
5. Updating of fire alarm system.
6. Time frame; All work should be completed within 30 (thirty) days of receipt of this
letter.
7. Separation by sheetrock of the wall between gun shop and hallway for residences.
A two-hour firewall to be created between gun shop and front hallway.
