BARNES ROAD COMPLAINT RECEIVED Help FEB 0 3 2020 CITY OF SALEM BOARD OF HEALTH Woodlands Road, Clark Ave and Barnes read, Sale Ma. 01970 Our neighborhood is drowning in Crystalline Silica: a respiratory human lung carcinogen. A Developer has devastated all the wild life and our neighborhood health and standard of living. He received a special permit for cluster zone. The tradeoff was to preserve more wildlife space. The area looks like a bomb has hit it. All wildlife was killed off by his Quarry operation (SEE AIERAL PHOTOS). For five years he is running a rock crushing, trucking material in and out running, (50 to 100 trucks a day); as a full blown quarry, with clouds of Crystalline Silica: a human lung carcinogen everywhere. It is on our cars, in our windows and in our lungs chocking us. He has use the charade of building houses, but he is making up to $5,000 for every truck load, which is far more profitable per a day of trucking and Quarry operation, verses building houses. We need your help to stop the health risk Madness to our personal wellbeing. Thank you in anticipation of your help in this matter. i.• PI I I+ I rI 4 I f 4. r 7•' . The source of Cancer Causing Crystalline Silica is all Earth Material processing operations; such as Rock crusher, Quarry Operation, Excavation, Excavator bucket loads dropped into air into trucks, Truck loads dumped into the air to be processed, and trucking to and from site. Material movement contaminates all houses and residents with the danger of the Cancer Crystalline Silica. Osha advises to avoid all such areas. Homes in the area will have this dust gathered in their windows and screens for years to come. Children should never be exposed to this area References: American Lung Association American Cancer society CDC Centers for disease Control and Prevention American Thoracic Society OSHA Every breath you, your children, visiting relatives and visiting children take inside or outside, in the yard, around your house, everyone is at risk. The Quarry Operation surrounds your house; see photos. You witness every day of the quarry operation, Rock Crushers running, trucks trailing the Crystalline Silica dust in and out, excavators loading and digging. The hydraulic excavator hammering on blasted rock. The Rock Crusher machines crushing blasted rock from "other sites." Every 3 trucks in, has one with a covered load of blasted rock for the Blue Rock Crushers that are Industrial Machines. This violates developer's Residential Subdivision permit and it puts you and your family at a great health risk. Originally, the developer had pushed the permit to allow incidental site work to Crush and Process and Sell material that was on site. But the Building Department has stated that outside site material, brought in to Crush is not allowed in that permit. The developer has a long-term plan of years using the site for quarry operations; it refused to declare the adjoining lot as residential use, as previous developers have done on Clark Ave. Clark Ave. had a 3-acre commercial zoned lot and the developers built 6 homes on it, keeping with the residential neighborhood. Woodlands Map at the beginning of your street clearly shows the access road to this site, which surrounds your homes. When you bought, your Realtor and the Owner did not explain the dangers of Crystalline Silica. Silica causes; Lung Cancer, Silicosis (no Cure), kidney disease and COPD Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. These chronic illnesses can lead to death. Values A new home at the entrance of a defacto Quarry that is producing clouds of the Dangerous Crystalline Silica is an unacceptable risk. Inhaling crystalline silica leads to serious, sometimes fatal illnesses including silicosis, lung cancer, tuberculosis (in those with silicosis), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This is the fifth year of this quarry operation; it is expected to run indefinitely. Five to ten years easily, is not out of question. (See Photos) At present and over the next immediate years, these homes are in an area, of a Silica health risk. Location, location determines resale value of homes. This defacto quarry location, which carries a clear and present health risk, is the very worst location. A new house anywhere else is preferable.
