Although there were no mosquitoes breeding currently in the outflow area of the culvert or stream I did note some concerns and I have attached a photo. The culvert outflow is blocked by debris and should be cleaned out each spring. The debris restricts complete water flow down into the stream. This can also create mosquito breeding inside the pipe in the stagnant water created by the backup.See photo below. Al fi ` tir y1 Downstream of the culvert, the flow becomes minimal and the channel is becoming pinched due to the invasive species Phragmites australis starting to grow on both banks and in the stream. This plant is extremely invasive and will build and grow on its own root systems and dead yearly growth,it will collect silt and decaying matter as it does. The silt, decaying matter, debris and new invasive growth will build up, become a "stand"and eventually completely restrict flow of the stream around the northeast side of the Park. This eventual restriction of water will harbor additional mosquito breeding within the stagnant stand of Phragmites. Streambank vegetation removal may help maintain functionality of this stream and assist in proper storm water removal. It would also maintain adequate stream flow for fish and other aquatic organisms that make mosquito breeding unlikely. https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/v=7.8.4-39.20190510.051907/print.html?print 15632... 7/16/2019 Xfmity Connect RE 7 Laurier Road, Salem Printout Page 2 of 2 Thankyou, RECEIVED Kimberly A.Foss Entomologist FEB 1 .9 2020 Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control and Wetlands Management District CITY OF 118 R Tenney Street BOAR OF HEALTH Georgetown, MA 01833 kimberly•foss@ mass.gov Cell:978-992-6970 Office:978-352-2800 Fax:978-352-5234 r, C .1 MIA www.nemassmosquito.org This email and/or attachment may contain confidential information. If you have received this message in error and are not the intended recipient, please notify the sender by telephone or by separate email. • image001.jpg(70 KB) • image002.jpg(5 KB) httt)s://connect.xfmity.coin/api3suite/v=7.8.4-39.20190510.051907/print.html?print_15 b32... 7/16/2019
