Applicant's Description
of Work:We recently purchased 7 Botts Court, and our inspector found signs of potential
water entry in several fireplaces. We have been advised to remove the cover
currently in place on the central chimney (a copper sheet with holes for each flue)
and install a full-coverage cap to protect the chimney from water entering and to
prevent damage to the masonry.
To put the cap in place, the chimney sweep contractor will: Cut out and tuckpoint
the chimney down to the roofline to make the chimney watertight; form a new 2-
inch concrete crown; and install a full coverage stainless steel chimney cap.
The cap will be made of stainless steel, measure 40x57 in, and will be a powder-
coated matte gray color. The contractor will also waterproof the chimney with two
coats of chimney-safe waterproofing and flash-seal all lead so the chimney is
watertight.
