Re:8 Bay View Ave
Mr. Frank,
Previously, I contacted you regarding the garage at this property. I informed you that the garage can be used for
storage only and should have been an accessory use to a principal building. This Department continues to
receive reports about the garage being used as a workshop and hangout by the renters there. Under Salem
Zoning ,this constitutes a violation. Since we have spoken before about this matter ,I am directing you to cease
and desist the current use of the garage within 30 days of receipt of this notice. Failure to address this matter
will result in Municipal code tickets and further enforcement actions.
If you feel you are aggrieved by my interpretation of the Salem Zoning Ordinance, your Appeal is to the Salem
Zoning Board of Appeals

Re:8 Bayview Ave
Dear Owner,
This office has received complaints regarding the garage you recently bought at 8 Bay View Ave. I observed a
gentleman installing car audio systems and abutters have complained that work on vehicles is occurring there.
This garage is a bit of an odd case in Salem. I am not sure how it came to be separated from a home but it
appears that happened long ago. The zoning district that the garage is in is R-1. R-1 zoning allows single
family homes and customary accessory structures and uses. A business cannot be run from this garage. The
garage can be used for the same purposes one attached to a home can be used for such as storage of a vehicle or
household items. Anything more than that will constitute a zoning violation. Therefore you are directed to
cease and desist the commercial use of the garage. Failure to comply will result in Municipal Code tickets and
further enforcement actions. If you feel you are aggrieved by my zoning interpretation, your appeal is to the
Salem Zoning Board of Appeals. If you have any questions, please contact me directly.
