The soils appeared to consist of well graded to poorly graded sand and gravel sand mixture with little fines. There appeared to be a significant amount of blasted ledge on the site which was used for backfill material as well. Based on my observation, I would classify the existing material on the site as conforming to the Group I Soil Group(ref. Unified Soil Classilication System). Based on this information, in accordance with the State Building code 780 CMR: Section 3604.5.1, the exception to the perimeter drain requirement would apply.
