Our files indicate that you, on January 29, 1985, had the Salem Fire Depart-
ment review plans for the above listed property.
Since that date we have had no other transactions. On November 6, 1987, I
made an external inspection of this property. There is strong evidence that
this building is partial occupied. This building has not been signed off
by this office relative to automatic smoke detectors and/or any other laws,
rules and regulations under the jurisdiction of the Salem Fire Department.

Dear Mr. Maurice:
As a result of the Committee on Ordinances & Legal Affairs meeting on
Wednesday, March 20, 1984, the following order was passed relative to your
property at #11 Appleton Street- Salem.
1. The agreed upon time table for securing the building was set at
4-6 weeks and that any variations of said time table shall be
con m:nicated to the Building Inspector and the Ward 6 Councillor.
2. The property shall be boarded up and secured nightly and on
weekends when work is not going on.
3. The area around the property be kept free and clear of any
debris on nights and weekends when work is not being done.
4. That the Building Inspector monitor the project on-site at least
twice weekly and that an oral report be given to the Ward 6
Councillor.
5. That the building retain the status of "Public Nuisance" until the
Committee deems otherwise.
6. That you appear before this Conmittee again on Plci day, ABril-15

Due to numerous complaints received by this department, a site observation
was conducted of your property at 1;1=Appleton-S-t-r-eet-on_March 11, 1985 by
Brian Lockard, Sanitarian for this department. The following was noted:
1. Renovation of the property was being performed in a sloppy and haphazard
fashion '
2. The generated waste was not being contained and disposed of properly
Mr. Richard Veno was ordered to cease renovation immediately and not to
proceed until the above items were corrected.
It is requested, while the renovation is taking place at this site, that the
work be performed so that all waste generated be contained and removed daily
or as often as necessary so as to not create any objectionable condition or.
any build-up.of waste and debris.
You are also advised of your right to a hearing if you feel this ORDER SHOULD.
be withdrawn or modified. You may obtain a hearing by filing a written petition
at this office within seven .(7) days of receipt of this ORDER.
Failure to comply with this ORDER shall result in a complaint being sought ,
against you in District Court.
Please notify the Health Department immediately of your intent to remedy these

opinion of this department, open to the' weather, unused, uninhabited
and as such is dangerous to the life and limb of the public.
You are therefore hereby ordered to take immediate action to insure
the safety of the public. . Under the provisions of Chapter 143 of the
Massachusetts General Laws, Sections 6, 7, 8, & 9 (enclosed) , you have
until noontime of the day following receipt of this letter to begin to
make is safe or to demolish it.
The structure is a fire hazard in its present condition and is
surrounded by broken glass and debris.
