Specifically, the land that is being considered, is as follows: A. Land adjacent to 55-61 Boston Street, contiguous to Ideal Finishing Co. ,I B. Part of the responsibility of the City Council in authorizing sales of public lands is the determination that said public land is in excess. Reference is made to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 40, Section 15. It is with reference to this specific question that we request an opinion by you as Superintendent of Public Property as to whether or not these lands are in excess of public use. This small parcel of approximately 700 square feet of land is contigious to property owned by Ideal and also abuts another small parcel of property to be acquired from an adjoining owner in order to provide more acuate shipping and receiving space for truck ingress and egress which is essential to the present and continued operation of this old Salem Firm. I believe that the next order of business is for you, as Superin- tendent of Public Property to indicate to his Honor, the Mayor, that the parcel is not currently used by the City and in all likelihood will not be used as such so that the proper address may be made to the City Council and permission granted for the sale of the same. If there are any questions, in regard to this, please contact Mr. John B. Powers, Superintendent of Public Property -2- April 29, 1976 A. Baliotis of Ideal Finishing or the undersigned. IDEAL RNISHING 066 5 Contract Finishers RECEIVED CITY o= ;ager..+ gdss, QUALITY FINISHING ON ALL TYPES OF LEATHER r 55.61 Boston Street O Salem. Mnss. 01970 March 4, 1976 Honorable Jean A. Levesque Mayor of Salem City Hall Salem, Massachusetts . Dear Mayor Levesque: Please be advised that this corporation is interested in purchasing a small parcel of land from the City of Salem, situated on Boston Street next to our place of business at 59 Boston Street, Salem, Massachusetts. The parcel is only approximately thirty-six (36) by nineteen (19) _ feet but is necessary for the continued business use of our building and adjacent land. We are leather finishers by trade and most of our deliveries are made by large eight wheel vans and semi-trailers. To use the doors at the westerly side of the building on Proctor Street effectively, completely shuts off the use of the street for other vehicular traffic. The property has been rented in error from an abutting owner who we plan to purchase a contigiuous piece of property frorq to protect, enhance and exit- from our shipping door. Since we usually employ twenty-five or more workers this parcel of property would enhance our delivery entrance and protect us and our employees by giving us the space required to assure the continuation of our present method of stock delivery. Initially we spoke with some members of the City Council who advised us of the proper manner in which to proceed and also indicated they would give us their whole hearted cooperation should it come before them as a body for a vote. ^a Honorable Jean A. Levesque -2- March 4, 1976 The title is a registered land title No. 1909 in the Registry in Salem and is shown as Lot A on the accompanying plan. We earnestly solicit your early affirmative act to this request and would be pleased to meet with you or any duly delegated representative at your or their pleasure. Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation. IDEAL FINISHING CO.
