Dear Owner
Our office received and confirmed a complaint of an existing egress not being accessible
and is being used as a closet. This a violation of the CMR 780 102.8. and 1001.3.
You are directed to remove all items from the stairs and to make it accessible.
In order for the staircase not to be used as an egress , a code review is required stating that the
staircase can be removed. If you decide to remove the staircase a building permit will be required
and only if our office receives the code review allowing the staircase to be removed.
Upon receipt of this violation letter you must immediately contact our office.
Failure to comply will result in municipal code tickets and further enforcement actions.
If you feel aggrieved by this order, your appeal is to the Board of Buildings, Regulations and
Standards in Boston.
