Re: site visit
Dear Ms Moulton,
Thank you for meeting with me last week to attempt to locate the source of popping noises at
your building. The area that you pointed out, at the end of your deck, has synthetic decking
material(non-wood)which has the tendency to expand and contract based on temperature and
exposure to the sun. The boards are fastened perpendicular to the wall in question and some of
them appear to be installed too tightly which does not give the material room to expand and
contract. I would suggest having a qualified craftsman loosen the fasteners, raise the boards up
slightly, and trim off a quarter of an inch of the board and then refasten. This is only a
suggestion, but I do believe it should be pretty inexpensive to try and hopefully lead to a
solution. The work, as I have proposed, will not need a building permit. If you have any other
questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Thomas St.Pierre
