This Department has received and investigated a complaint regarding the storage of two-(2)vehicles at your
property in the driveway at 1 Fairview Avenue.As noted at our meeting on June 12, 2013 the vehicles were
unregistered and uninspected; in violation of City Ordinance 24-21 which prohibits the keeping of unregistered
and uninspected vehicles,boats and trailers. You were directed by this office at the time to remove the vehicles
within eleven(11)day, culminating on June 23,2013.Failure to respond or remove the vehicles within this
time period will result in Municipal Code Tickets and further enforcement actions
Additionally, on June 12,2013 this Department's recent inspection of the above referenced
property revealed that an illegal dwelling unit has been created in the rear of the property
on the first floor behind the garage.
The following actions are required in:mediately to bring the property into compliance
with the Massachusetts State Building Code and City of Salem Zoning Ordinances:
1. File building Permits and arrange inspections for the complete removal of the first
floor bath located behind the garage including removal of plumbing behind the
finished wall, any and all partitions that constitute a living or sleeping area in any
way.
2. If you intend to keep the first floor bathroom, have licensed tradesmen arrange for
plumbing and electrical work to be inspected including removing construction
finishes sufficient for inspectors to see the work.

3. Submit a signed and notarized affidavit that you shall not occupy the sleeping area
until all work itemized above is completed and signed off by this department and
any other City department having jurisdiction.
Said work must begin immediately and completed with-in 30 days of postmark of this letter; failure to respond
to this notification will be construed as non-compliance,if you feel you are aggrieved by this order,your
appeal is to the Board of Buildings,Regulations and Standards in Boston.
