WEAR PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR; FAILURE TO MAY RESULT IN SEVERE BURNS OR LONG-TERM INJURY TO EYES. Only the following lamp has been certified for use in this equipment:COSMOLUX VHR 160 watt NAI-15-160 W. These products are in conformity with performance standards for sun lamp products under 21 CFR Part 1040.20. WARNING: Receive proper operation instructions from the proprietor. Recommended exposure position-The"Foot Prints" indicator is located on the floor to give you the best overall tan in the shortest period of time. To achieve recommended exposure position, place feet over the footprints. The use of any other position may result in overexposure. Disconnect power to the unit before attempting to clean, relamp,or engage in the maintenance of this product. Medications or Cosmetics: Some may increase your sensitivity to the ultraviolet radiation. Consult a physician before using sunlamps if you are using medications, have a history of skin problems,or believe yourself especially sensitive to sunlight. If you do not tan in the sun,you are unlikely to tan from the use of this product. Tanning may appear after one application provided that your skin is capable of developing a suntan. Allow 48 hours between sessions to obtain a base tan,and once or twice a week to maintain appearance. RECOMMENDED EYEWEAR: Provided eye shields(Lucas Products Corp., Super Sunnies)or equivalent eyewear as defined under 21 CFR 1040.20 2(b)(6). One pair of protective eyewear is fumished with this equipment and should be worn by all persons in the room when lamps are on. Exposure times Only one person can be exposed to the sun-tanning product per session. For that reason only one set of protective eyewear has been provided. The human skin's reaction to natural sunlight varies depending on the skin type. Its reaction to the tanning process varies to the same extent. You should therefore attempt to find the appropriate exposure time, which is suitable for your skin. In principle,an exposure period of 2 minutes on each body side should not be exceeded at the beginning of the tanning treatment. Depending on the skin type and the natural pigment content the skin, the subsequent tanning period can be extended in accordance with the Table below. Sensitive skin or very fair skin(bums easily, then tans) not recommended Light skin(tans minimally) 2-8 minutes. Normal skin or skin of normal color(bums moderately and tans average) 2-9 minutes. Robust skin or skin of dark color(burns minimally, tans easily and above average) 2-10 minutes. Maximum exposure time 10 minutes. (See chart below) I Sensitive Skin easily and severely d does not an. NO RECOMMENDED FOR G II Lieasily d severely and tans minimaBy.) 6 8 III Normal (Bums moderatelytans vera 2 7 IV Dark (Burns minimally, tans easily and above average.) 26 8 10 2 Note The FDA requires this manual to remain in your business at all times. Connection (Electrical) Important-Your Systems requires an operating voltage of 220-230 volts. A buck-booster transformer may be required to provide optimum voltage. Units with 23 thru 48 lamps: This unit must be connected to a 220 V,60 amps,60 HZ,power supply only. Units with 49 thru 54 lamps: This unit must be connected to a 220 V,70 amps,60 HZ power supply only. Units with 55 thru 60 lamps: This unit must be connected to a 220 V, 80 amps,60 HZ power supply only. GROUNDING: Attach proper gauge ground wire to Ground Lug located on the ballast tray near the Circuit Breaker. All units must be plugged into a grounded socket and the unit is ready for operation. DANGER-Improper grounding can result in risk of electric shock. BREAKER: For continued protection against risk of fire, replace only same type and rating of circuit breaker! Note: an authorized electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code, as well as all local codes must wire Unit. All units are ready immediately after switching on. There is no need for any warming up period. After a time of approx.2 minutes the UV-lamps deliver the complete radiation intensity. Tanning Procedures Attention Use the supplied eye protection model Super Sunnies during the tanning - Protective Guards-Keep hands and fingers away from the protective fan guards, lamp guards and lamps. Serious injury and/or severe bums may result. Recommended exposure position-The"Foot Prints" indicator is located on the floor to give you the best overall tan in the shortest period of time. To achieve recommended exposure position, place feet over the footprints. The use of any other position may result in overexposure Timer Operation Your unit is equipped with one T-Max 3A timer. At the beginning of each session the selected exposure time will be displayed when you enter the unit. To lower the session time, simply press the down arrow button until the desired time is displayed. The session can be activated two ways. (t)You press the start/stop button on the timer,or(2)the pre-start delay feature will tum the unit on automatically once the delay time has expired. Stopping the tanning session-the tanning session can be,terminated in two ways. (1)Press the Start/stop button on the timer or(2)the customer can place the"Emergency Shut Off Switch"on the control panel in the South Beach to the"OFF"position. Connecting a T-Max Manager to the South Beach-a 50' remote timer cable is supplied at the top of your unit. Plug the remote timer cable into the nearest T-Max 3A or directly into the manager. 3 Tanning Hints Pregnant Women-The best answer to whether pregnant women should tan is to discourage expectant mothers from indoor tanning, unless they have a letter from their doctor. The radiation intensity of the tubes is higher than the normal rating during the first few operating Hours. During the first 50 operating hours the exposure times displayed in the table should therefore be reduced by 20%. The body's skin does not have the same thickness all over and this results in varying degrees of sensitivity to light. In particular, the skin on the female breast is much more sensitive to light than other areas of the body, since it is usually covered by clothing and therefore not,or hardly ever, exposed to natural sunrays. Care must therefore be taken when exposing such extremely sensitive body areas at the beginning of the treatment sequence and until a natural protection against light(pigmentation and thickening of upper skin layer)has been formed. Shorter exposure times should be chosen or these skin areas should be covered after approximately half the selected tanning period. A tan is usually noticeable after four to seven sessions. Such repeated exposure periods will stimulate the pigmentation to a maximum extent and a stronger tan is obtained after one to three weeks. If there are signs of sunburn(approx.4-8 hours after the tanning and manifested by red and/or taut skin)despite all precautions, tanning must be interrupted for a day. This is because skin inflamed by sunburn is much more sensitive to light,so that the symptoms may be increased unless the skin is given a break. If the tan develops only slowly the tanning periods may be increased by 2 minutes. If this results in a red or taut skin, the periods must be reduced again. Please note: If your skin will not tan under natural sunlight, it will not perform any better with American Quality Mfg., Inc.Tanning Equipment. Under certain conditions,a pathological skin reaction may occur even with normally sensitive skins. Certain chemical substances, which are contained in drugs or perfumed cosmetics, are usually the reason for this. These photo toxic or photo-allergic substances include sulphonamides, tetracyclin antibiotics, acridine paints, preparations containing cola tar or furocumarine, and some perfume oils such as bergamot. The taking of such drugs should be stopped a few days before the tanning treatment and cosmetics should not be applied immediately prior to the treatment in order to prevent any damage to the skin. Consult your doctor as to whether the tanning treatment can be continued in the case of illness or when taking drugs on a regular basis. We do not accept responsibility for any damage or injury caused by negligent use of the equipment or an abnormal physical constitution(e.g. oversensitive skin, certain drugs.) Do not apply any sun lotions or other preparations before the tanning session. After the treatment we recommend the use of an oil or moisturizing cream. Care and maintenance 1. The unit does not require any special maintenance. However, ensure that the special acrylic glass plate is clean at all times, since this would otherwise impair the effectiveness of the equipment. To clean, use a mild and nonabrasive cleaning agent or washing liquid. If required, the reflectors and tubes should only be cleaned with a soft cloth from time to time. Do not use any scouring agents. The acrylic glass should be replaced after 1500 operating hours. The only body parts that come in contact with the system are the bottoms of the feet, close attention should be paid to this area after each session. The floor can be cleaned with warm water or any of the disinfectant solutions on the market. CAUTION: Avoid excess cleaning fluid dripping through the vent holes. Make sure floor is dry before next tanning customer enters the booth. 2. Over time, the hand straps will become dirty. They can be removed and washed with warm soapy water. 3. The walls, ceiling and framework can be cleaned with any mild Non-abrasive cleaner and a cloth. DO NOT ALLOW WATER OR CLEANING SOLUTION TO COME IN CONTACT WITH FLOURESCENT SOCKETS OR SUNLAMPS. 4 4. Danger-Never service the fan without first placing the main disconnect switch in the off position. As an added precaution Un plug the fan motor from the top of the unit. The fan should be cleaned when any noticeable build-up of dust is noted. Carefully wipe down the fan blades and inlet ring. 5. The lamp guards and ceiling can be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner with a soft furniture attachment. Hour Meter The Hour Meter is located on the ballast tray. It is non-resettable. It will allow you to keep track of total hours as well as when to change or rotate your sunlamps. Proper Cooling Optimum performance can only be attained provided you supply adequate cooling to the system to begin with. To insure the highest output from your system, your room temperature should be between 73 F and 80 F. Room temperatures higher than or lower than the above temperatures may adversely affect the performance of the lamp. Lamp life can be decreased as well. Do not obstruct intake louvers located in the panels or obstruct the exhaust system located at the top of the unit. Fan Operation-Your South Beach cooling fan is equipped with an adjustable delay timer that is preset at the factory for approximately 3 minutes. This allows for proper cool down after each session. Anytime the South Beach is energized the fan delay will be activated. Changing Starters Starters are to be replaced every other lamp change. A week starter will increase the starting loads and shorten the life of the VHR Lamps. Starters are a great investment that will save you time and money in the long term. Lamp Replacement Removing lamp guards metal or plastic-each lamp guard can be removed raising up and away from the lamp fixture. Then you set the lamp guard outside the booth. Rotate lamps until pin aligns with opening in socket, and then slide the lamp outwards until the lamp is free from sockets. Be careful not to bend or break pins when removing. Replace lamps by placing the bi-pins in the bottom socket, making sure to line up pins with slot in bottom socket. Next, insert top bi-pins in slot in top socket rotate lamp 90 degrees, making sure lamp is locked in both sockets. (Special Note) The lamps are coated on one side, that side should not be closest to the user The radiation intensity of each radiation source diminishes with age. After approx. 500 operating hours, the tube should be replaced. Lamp End Darkening Due to the high operating temperatures of the Sunlamps, lamp end blackening will occur. This does not affect lamp performance. American Quality Mfg.,or its distributors, dealers, employees or sales representatives will not accept any responsibility for any damage caused by failure to follow the previously specified maintenance and replacement procedures. Failure Remedies In the case of failure, even if a check of the tubes, lamps and starters reveals these to be in order,so that the defect must lie elsewhere, contact the Service for American Quality Mfg.,equipment at: American Quality Mfg.,Inc. 310 Shearer Blvd. Cocoa,Florida 32922 Phone(321)636-3434 Fax (321)636-3445 5 In addition,American Quality Mfg.,will provide you with the recommended replacement components and accessories, which are compatible with the product, including protective eyewear, ultraviolet lamps, timers, reflectors and complete UVA-face tanner units. We recommended that you ask for a receipt showing the type and extent of repairs carried out by the Service for American Quality Mfg.,equipment. ATTENTION: YOU MUST UNPLUG THE TANNING BED BEFORE SERVICE! This .product is :in conformity With performance standards for `Sunlarrmp products under 21 CFR PART 1040.2`0. 6
