Applicant's Description The mortar and lintels on the exterior brick walls of the building complex have
of Work: deteriorated substantially. A few walls and the chimneys were re-pointed within the last
15 years and these will be left as they are. The rest of the walls will undergo a full cut
and re-point by Gary Clark Masonry & Restoration. All head joints will be chipped out by
hand to minimize damage to the brick. Re-pointing will be done using a historical type n
cement to maintain the historical image. Once cement work is complete, the building will
be fully washed down and a clear siloxane sealer applied for protection.
All masonry headers and sills around the building will be inspected and damaged areas
repaired.
The ground along one wall of the rear courtyard will be dug out to expose the stone
foundation, which is leaking. The current ground cover in this area is dirt. Damaged
mortar will be repaired. Excavated earth will be returned to the trench.
Scaffolding and netting will be erected to execute the work. A plywood deck will be
installed on first lift for safety and protection to pedestrians. Lighting will be installed for
nighttime walking.
