Access Control to Swimming Pools
Dear Steve:
This is a follow-up to our telephone conversation related to the above referenced project.
Parks & Recreation: The list generated by the Parks&Recreation related to MAAB compliance has
been addressed.The Contractor has corrected the majority of items; moving the mirrors on the tile will
wait until warmer weather to avoid damage to the tile,other items noted were in compliance.You have a
copy of the memo with both Colantonio and BH+A's comments added.
Access to Pool:Your Department questioned security and access to the swimming pool area.We note
the following;
1. The pool bathhouse combines seasonal pool support spaces as well as a year around
community classroom with public toilets,and a concession area.
2. The year around space is heated,the pool supports spaces are not.
3. The two areas are segregated by solid walls and a pair of double doors in the corridor.
4. The double doors have access control and can be opened by a key or the access control
system.
5. The double doors will be locked when the pool is closed.
6. During pool operations, bathers will check in at the control desk then proceed through the
double doors to reach the family changing rooms,locker rooms,and pool.
7. There are two doors that provide egress to the pool.These doors will be unlocked or dogged
open when the pool is open.
8. One door has access control to accommodate maintenance and operations while the pool is
open;the second door is egress from the bathhouse.We assume that staff setting up during
the pool season will park and access the complexfrom the Support Building side.Access control
at the rear door of the bathhouse allows staff to enter and begin daily setup for the pool directly
from the deck.
9. The door with access control, has a position indicator and will notify the access control system
when the door is opened.
10. The two doors leading to the pool will be in operation when the double doors are unlocked,and
the pool is open.
