Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance. District: McIntire Address of Property: 34 Chestnut Street Name of Record Owner: Historic New England Description of Work Proposed: • Clean out and/or snake gutters and downspouts of both the Main House and Carriage Barn as well as two yard drains at 34 Chestnut Street. • Do exploratory investigations with video equipment of the underground discharging downspouts and yard drains to get a better understanding of their routes. • Additional proposed work on the Main House includes elongating three downspouts (to match existing) and securing any precarious connections. • Additional proposed work on the Carriage Barn will include fabricating a new brownstone splash block that will match the structure’s two existing splash blocks. • It is tentatively also proposed to install heat tape along certain eaves/ gutters/ downspouts of the Main House’s western and northern elevations. Where the heat tape is tentatively to be installed should not be visible from a public way. Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign-off is required to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
