Dear Mr. Sturm,
I am writing today to address concerns the City has with your property. The first item is one we have discussed
before regarding the unregistered and uninspected vehicles at your property. You continue to violate City
Ordinance 24-21 with at least 4 unregistered and perhaps more everyday on your property. I am enclosing a
citation for this violation.
The second item is that I am considering the repairs on vehicles to be a commercial operation in a residential
district. This is a violation of Salem Zoning, specifically table 3 -Use regulations. I am directing you to cease
the Commercial activity(repairing of automobiles)immediately. Zoning violations carry a maximum penalty
of$300 dollars per day. (If you feel you are aggrieved by my Zoning interpretation,you must file an appeal
with the City of Salem Zoning Board of Appeals).
The third item is a State Building Code violation. The rear porch and associated roof is in disrepair and open to
the weather.(Mass State Building Code 780 CMR section R102.8 Maintenance of Structure) A permit needs
to be secured,the structural defects corrected and the roofing and soffits be made weathertite. .I will give you
30 days to begin these repairs. Failure to address this structural repair to the rear egress weill result in daily
fines and further enforcement actions. .. If you feel you arec aggrieved by this order,your appeal is to the Board
of Buildings, Regulations an Standards in Boston.
