The existing secondary structure has been completely renovated and is currently vacant. By adding an affordable accessory dwelling unit into the secondary structure, we would be increasing the affordable housing in the neighborhood by one unit without taking away from the neighborhood character or natural environment. The one- bedroom unit, which is between the 300-900 square foot requirement, will have minimal impact on utilities and to the public services that already service the principal building on the lot. The purpose of the ordinance is met in that the intent is to have family members occupy the unit on a lot of adequate size that will allow off-street parking, although none is required by the ordinance. The unit will add value to the property, thereby increasing tax revenue, while fulfilling the intent of the ordinance by increasing the City's housing supply.
