We were asked to rethink the gutter detail from our first meeting and consider the use of half round
copper gutters on the side of the building facing the Salem Maritime National Historic Site. Towards
that end we would like to submit the following materials for completing the job.
• See attached Berger catalog: page 8-Gutter, page 12-downspout, page 34-double bead bar
hanger.
• Gutter material to be half round 5” doublebead copper.
o Berger catalog p8:
o
• The gutter will be suspended from the roof line with 5” regal doublebead bar type hangers
placed 1’ on center.
o Berger catalog p34:
o
• All joints will be soldered with strategically placed copper rivets.
• Downspouts to be plain round copper with fitting designed to match.

Due to the walkway and side entrance stairs we submit the best place for the gutters is as follows:
As simulated in the provided picture, the gutter outlet tube will be located in the inner corner above
the door. The downspout will attach and then run along the rake board line. It will then run down the
cornerboard and drain at ground level away from the foundation.
The gutter outlet for the back section of the house (with the two bay windows) will be located at the
rear of the building. The downspout will turn the corner and run down the corner board located on
the back of the house (running parallel to the front). In essence, being out of sight from the front of
the building. It will also minimize the visual impact of the downspout as one walks down the sidewalk
or across the open grassy area. The rear downspout on the Kosciuszko Street side of the building does
the same as shown in the photo above.
