Applicant's Description
of Work:
The proposed work is to install copper water diverters to the existing copper roof at four
locations. Standing strips of copper to divert the water to the gutter farther away from
the downspout should prevent or slow the overspill. The force of the overspill of the
existing gutters during rainstorms has damaged the window shutters, causes water to
run between the windows and exterior storms, left copper staining on the marble
exterior window casings and other marble decorative elements, and makes puddles that
result in splashing up onto the basement level windows. The locations of the diverters
will be on either side of the front entrance pavilion and on both sides of the rear central
gable.
The existing wood gutters are integrated into the decorative carving at the roof line and
cannot be expanded without a significant impact on an original element of the 1907
building.
