Know your rights under the open meeting law MGL chapter 30A ss 18-25 and City Ordinance section 2-2028 through 2-2033 • Health Agent report November 2013 Announcements • Food Permits were issued to Turner's Seafood at the Lyceum, A&B Burgers in the former Great Escape space • The former Bangkok Spice space across from city hall in being converted to a Japanese restaurant. The owners have provided us with plans which have been reviewed and the plan review approval issued. • The Peabody Essex Museum is planning a live bird exhibit in their exhibit hall, discussion on the public health implications are planned for Monday December 9th Community Outreach • The restaurant seminars with Dr. Mona started-and they are being well received, and the restaurateurs are find the information very useful • Sara Mullarkey, Bridgewater State University undergraduate Health Administration student in, spent a day with the BOH staff observing what a local Board of Health does. Environmental Health Highlights 56 Swampscott Road • This address has been the site of an ongoing illegal dumping issue. Over the course of the last g g g p g several months the Board of Health has worked with MA DEP to address this matter. MA DEP has installed closed circuit cameras on the site and as a result approximately 10 people have been observed illegally dumping at this site. These offenders have been fined and ordered to remove what they dumped on the property. To date the city has been paid approximately$2650.00 in fines. We have instituted court action against the owner for failing to secure the property to prevent illegal dumping at the site. 117 Lafayette Street The Board of Health has received approximately 2 complaints of bed bug infestation in unit 310 at this address. Both complaints were investigated and no evidence of bed bugs was observed. The building management has been addressing this issue and a licensed pest control operator was out to the property on 11/11/13 and they found no insects in the unit at that time. Meetings and Trainings • Staff attended the MA Environmental Health Association educational seminar on Air . Quality Nuisances. The seminar provided information on the Housing Code and Tobacco Smoke Complaints, Smoke Free Housing, Odor Control Systems for Food Service i Establishments, Tobacco Sales to Minors, Inspection and Enforcement and a Nuisance Update with MassDEP • The INFORM conference dealt with issues related to foodborne illnesses and investigations. The relevance to local health, is that the CDC is launching a new tool to train investigational staff on approaches to conducting a Food borne illness environmental investigation. Additionally, there is a new tool for establishments to assess their vulnerability to food borne illnesses, looking at the antecedents to food borne illnesses at their businesses and strategies to put into motion to reduce the risk. • Staff participated in online webinar training for the new computer based inspection software View Inspect.
