TOPIC DISCUSSION/ACTION
1. Call to Order 7:00pm
2. Minutes of Last Meeting Motion by Gayle Sullivan to approve minutes with corrections. 2nd
(April 10, 2013) M Fair. Approved unanimously
3. Chairperson Announcements The Board welcomed new member Dr. Danielle Ledoux. Dr.
Ledoux introduced herself to the Board and looks forward to her
service as a member of the Board.
Organization of the Board-M Fair motioned to nominate Dr.
Barbara Poremba as Chairperson, & Heather Lyons-Paul as
Clerk of the Board. G. Sullivan 2"d All in Favor. Motion passes.
The Ethic requirement for conflict of interest was completed by all
• Board Members.
4. Monthly Reports-Updates
A. B. Health Agent Health Agent Report was presented & approved. Copy available at
Report the BOH office.
Larry Ramdin will develop a portable toilet protocol and bring it to
the next meeting for discussion. This is done in other communities.
Rodent control discussion- problem areas are being baited and
private property owners will be notified to bait their property. Larry
Ramdin is in contact with Councilors about this issue.
Farmers Market will start on June 13 and we will have a booth at
the market. We will display timely Public Health information and
do blood pressure screenings at the weekly market.

B. Public Health PHN Report was presented & approved. Copy available at the BOH
Nurse's Report office.
C. Administrative An updated report was given to the Board Members per request of
• Report Members from April's meeting. Members requested that a running
balance of the budget be added to report.

D. City Council Councilor Furey submitted a request to City Council to repeal the
Liaison Updates home rule to revert the board size to 3 members in accordance with
MGL Chap 111 s 26 of 1912. This petition was sent directly the
• Committee on Public Health Safety and Environment. Hearing date
has not been scheduled.
The incumbent Board Members' reappointments were not
confirmed by City Council and were sent to the Public Health
Safety and Environment committee for further discussion. The 3
Board of Health members will be asked to come before the
committee to discuss their reappointment. At date for this has not
been scheduled.
5. New Business
A. Miscellaneous Larry Ramdin informed the Board that approval of a needed
additional clerk was not included in FY 2014's budget. At a
minimum, coverage is necessary when the clerk is out on vacation
or sick leave. Internal or temp coverage will be requested.
The shared services agreement has been signed.
Landlord informational sessions about smoke free environments
will be held throughout the north shore.

City Updates
Announcements
• Dr. Shama Alam has been confirmed as the 5t'member of the Board of Health
• Mayor Driscoll has submitted a request to City Council to reconsider amending the
Special act to reduce the Board of health to 5 members
• FY 2014 Budget was passed by City Council
• Justina Polvere, RN Public Health nurse has submitted her resignation effective July
26th. Justina is leaving to further her education and pursue her dream of becoming a
Nurse midwife
• Public Health Nurse position has been posted and a interim Public Health Nurse will be
hired to conduct communicable disease follow-up and TB cans management and DOT
until a fulltime PHN is hired
• Food permits has been issued to Opus, Longboards and Red Line Cafe
• Plans have been submitted for Honey Dew Donuts ( former Little Caesar's space on
Canal Street) and Turner's Seafood (former 43Church/Lyceum Space)
Community Outreach
• Mayor is hosting a number of neighborhood walks with representation from Health,
Building, Police, fire and DPW to discuss ongoing issues and seek resolution to these
issues
• Larry Ramdin Health Agent met Gallows Hill neighborhood to discuss an ongoing rodent
infestation and discuss community strategies that can be employed to alleviate the
problem.
• Larry Ramdin has been dealing with a trash issue in the Derby Square area
Meetings and Trainings
• Delilah Castro attended the Certified Pool Operator training and obtained her CPO
certification.
• Delilah Castro attended the Blood Borne Pathogens training in Gloucester.
• Staff attended training for the new computer software View Permit
• Larry Ramdin attended "Together, Let's Clear the Air: A Smoke-Free Housing Resident
Summit". The seminar dealt with strategies to go smoke free, rationale and health
benefits derived from going smoke free in multi-unit housing
