Poremba—Are there any fact sheets that we can hand out to the public? D. Greenbaum—We have been distributing the bed bug fact sheet from MA DPH. This was distributed at the household hazardous waste day and has been given to anyone who has requested it. The fact sheet is also available on the City website. The Board discussed writing a letter to the editor about bedbugs. Dr. Lucas volunteered to write a letter to the editor to explain public health issues vs. nuisance of bed bugs. D. Greenbaum—The DPH has received a 5 year grant through the CDC to work towards creating regional health districts. The first 3 years of the grant are fully funded, the 4"'year is funded at 75%and the 51'year is funded at 50%. After that there will be no additional funding. A meeting was held in Tewksbury that David was not able to attend, although M.Fair did attend the meeting. M. Fair—Explains that the initial grants will be planning grants that at least 3 parties need to sign, i.e.Mayor, BOH member or Director. There should be more information on the MHAO website about the grants. We would have to apply for these grants by the end of February. Dr. Poremba suggested we reach out to other Health Departments to let . them know we are interested in looking into these grants. Board members concluded that D. Greenbaum should speak with other neighboring BOH to let them know that Salem is interested in collaborating on this grant. An architect in Salem would like to address the board about including the use of electric sanders with HEPA filter vacuums in the City of Salem. This architect would like to see this incorporated into Salem's exterior paint removal regulations. The Board suggested she come before them with more information about this matter. An applicant for a permit to be a tattoo artist came to the Board of . Health office concerned that he had no record of his graduation from high school because his diploma and all records of his graduation were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. The Body Art regulations require a high school diploma or GED. He would like a variance to this requirement. He is permitted as a Tattoo Artist in Quincy because the Quincy Board of Health does not require a high school diploma or GED. The board requested that David do some more research into this matter to determine if there is any way to obtain a copy of the applicants' diploma. D. City Council Liaison A new Council President will be taking over the Council next year. Updates Jerry Ryan will be the new Council President. Councilor Furey has enjoyed working with the Board over the past year and will be requesting he be appointed the City Council Liaison to the Board of Health again next year. 5.New Business A.
