as a courtesy in conducting your investigation, and is provided on the

This letter is to request permission to review Underground Storage Tank (UST) records
for the following properties:
(1) 252JBridge;Street' (parking lot'•in fronit of Salem MBTA station); and
(2)28-30 Foster Street -(former Seaboard Chemical). j
TRC Environmental Corporation has been retained by the City of Salem to complete
environmental site assessments, which include a review of hazardous materials
inventories and historical use of petroleum, on and in the vicinity of the above -mentioned
sites. In addition to records for the addresses noted above, we must also review UST
records for properties that adjoin'or are located adjacent to these sites; The following
page indicates additional properties surrounding these sites for which we would like to
obtain UST records.
We understand that the typical process of conveying UST records to the public involves
payment of a $30.00 fee to the City of Marlborough (Fire Prevention) so that records may
be copied and sent to the person making the request. However, in this case the requested
UST records, which will be summarized by TRC, are intended for use by the City
Planning Department as part of their Brownfields program. Therefore we respectfully
ask that you consider the possibility of waiving this fee in the interest of minimizing costs
to the City. Accordingly, a.t your request, I would be happy to make an appointment to _

the City of Salem. I have just returned from an operation to work and
have found the following information that will help you in this matter.

This letter is to request permission to review Underground Storage Tank (GIST) records
for the following properties:
(1) 70 Bostou St. (Former Flynn Tannery;
(2) IA Phillips St (Former Machine Shop; and
(3) r61-Ward St. (Former Gas Station).
TRC Environmental Corporation has been retained by the City of Salem to complete
environmental site assessments of these properties, which includes a review of hazardous
materials inventories and historical use of petroleum on the sites.
We understand that the typical process of conveying UST records to the public involves
payment of a S30.00 fee to the City of Marlborough (Fire Prevention) so that records may
be copied and sent to the person making the request. However, in this case the requested
UST records, which will be summarized by TRC, are intended for use by the City
Planning Department as part of their Brownfield's program. Therefore we respectfully
ask that you consider the possibility of waiving this fee in the interest of minimizing costs
to the City. Accordingly, at your request, I would be happy to make an appointment to
come in and review the identified records to minimize the effort and costs required by
Fire Prevention personnel.

The Salem Fire Department has received your letter of inquiry for
information concerning the possibility of flammable Liquid storage or
releases on the property described below.
Your request for a 21-E site report for the addresses listed as 5, 11, 13, 24 Saunders St;
20 Cross St; ana 242 Bridge St. Underground storage tanks were located at 24 Saunders St,
the former Salem Shoe property, according to our files. No other records for USTs were
found in. our files.
You should understand that the Salem Fire Department is but one of several
departments within the City of Salem to which information can be obtained
concerning flammable liquid storage, releases, or hazardous wastes. It is
quite probable that this department would have no knowledge of the
presence of hazardous wastes on any particular site since this department
does not do independent hazardous waste investigations.
To assist you in conducting your environmental assessment of the site, we
are able to inform you as indicated by the report attached and/or
enclosures.
As stated above, the records of the Salem Fire Department do not permit
you to rely upon the information contained in this letter as being either
definitive or complete. The information in this letter is provided to you
as a courtesy in conducting your investigation, and is provided on the
