It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:

as described below does not involve an exterior architectural feature or involves a feature covered by the exemptions or
limitations set forth in the Historic District's Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance.

Description of Work Proposed:
• Repair of the front- facing, exterior Mansard roof
• Repair the flat-bay and entryway roofs of each unit on the front-facing exterior of the dwelling.
• Repairs and/or replacement made to the historic Mansard slate roof will be done using in kind materials that retain
the architectural detailing, integrity of style, color, dimension, and texture of the original slate roof tiles. Based on the
assessment of the scope of work required on the Mansard roof by J.B. Kidney & Co., Inc. approximately 70 slate roof
tiles will need to be repaired and/or replaced.
• The work done on the Bay and Entry-way roofs require correctly installing flashing at the edges of the roofline that
abut the exterior front-facing facade of the dwelling. This process will require the temporary removal of two courses
of clapboard. If the existing clapboard has retained its integrity, it will simply be put back in its original place. If the
clapboard needs to be replaced this too will be done using in kind materials that retain the architectural detailing,
integrity of style, color, dimension, and texture of the current cedar clapboards. The edge of these roof will terminate
with a custom copper edge cleat.
There will be no changes in color, material, design, location, or outward appearance. Non-applicable due to being in-kind
repair.
Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign -off is required to document
compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
