In June of 2014 the Salem Historical Commission issued Certificate of Non—Applicability for the in kind
restoration of the Greenhouse at 5 Federal Court. Recently we were made aware that the 3 tab black asphalt
shingles that were on the potting shed roof are no longer available.
The Peabody Essex Museum is now seeking the approval of the commission to use wood cedar shingles in
place of the no longer available asphalt shingles.
Please see attached photographs showing the potting shed both with the aforementioned asphalt shingles
and with wood roof shingle as constructed 0906.
