The proposed work includes a one-story addition on the east side of the existing house. Consistent with dutch
colonial gambrel houses of this period,the opposite(west) side of the existing house has a one-story sunroom
ringed with windows. As is typical of this typology, we are proposing a small addition on the driveway side of the
house that will serve as entry/mudroom/powder room. The proposed addition is approximately half the size of this
existing sunroom, projecting 10'-6" from the east side of the house, and running 12'-8" alongside the house; it is
within the zoning setback. Windows matching the size and mullion pattern of the existing windows in the house
are used on the front(facing Warren St) and east side (facing neighboring property). A door and new granite stair
faces the backyard(looking toward Dalton Pkwy). A new painted wood fence adjacent to the addition screens the
back yard from Warren Street. A new unpainted wood fence is to be built along rear property line (facing Dalton
Pkwy).
Additionally,an existing vinyl clad mudroom/vestibule,and basement bulkhead/headhouse are to be demolished.
These are not original to the existing house, as evidenced by the face that the wide clapboard exterior cladding of
the 1924 house extends through these additions. The mudroom/vestibule will be replaced by a window into the
kitchen, again matching the existing size and mullion pattern of existing windows in the house. The existing Trex
stair to the back door is eliminated. The basement bulkhead/headhouse will be replaced with a low, Bilco ptd steel
bulkhead that is much less visually obtrusive than the existing headhouse.
