It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:

as described below will be appropriate to the preservation of said Historic District, as per the requirements
set forth in the Historic District's Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance.

Description of Approval of Work:
▪ Install two (2) new Velux “Sun Tunnel” skylights on rear ell – one on north roof slope of ell and
one on south roof slope. Skylights to have “daylight controller” to control both sunlight entering
and interior light exiting the skylight.
▪ NOTE: This application is unique in that it is the first “Sun Tunnel” skylight application being
reviewed by the Commission and that the Commission has limited experience with which to
adequately judge the application. In this regard, the Commission has determined this installation
to be a pilot or test case, which may make the existing guidelines subject to modification, to which
future applications may be subject.
Upon completion of work, please notify Historical Commission staff for final review and sign-off of
Certificate.
