CERTIFICATE OF NON APPLICABILITY HCNA-21-58
It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:
Type of Work: Ordinary Maintenance,Repair,or Replacement
as described below will be appropriate to the preservation of said Historic District,as per the requirements set forth in the Historic
District's Act(M.G.L.Ch.4oQ and the Salem Historic Districts Ordinance.
District: McIntire
Address of Property: 19 FLINT STREET, SALEM, MA 01970
Name of Owner at time of Submission: LENNY TRUST;LENNY JOHN PAUL/LENNY MARY HELEN PAX TRS
Applicant's Description of Work:
19 FLINT STREET— Replace Failing Clapboards and repaint two sides of the house with same colors
CLAPBOARD REPLACEMENT
The siding on the back of the house is due to be replaced. Currently, there are 6" clapboards spaced at 5" — 5.25"
so there is little to no overlap. The wall is relying heavily on the felt paper under the siding to keep the rain out.
We want to replace the existing clapboards on three sections of the back west wall (see photos). We do not want
to replace the clapboards on the porch walls which are still in good shape.
The new clapboards will be full-piece 6" Eastern white pine, primed on all four sides. Using the appropriate
spacing we will be able to align the new clapboards with those on the south (driveway) side which are 6"
clapboards, thus improving the overall appearance of the house.
PAINTING SURFACES
WALLS —The three sections of the back (west) wall will be painted from the 2nd floor soffits down —excluding
the soffits and the wall portions under the porch roof. The clapboards on the south (driveway) side will be painted
from the soffits down, again excluding the soffits.
WINDOWS - The window frames will be painted on these walls but not the sashes (1 coat primer and 1 coat
finish)
PORCH -The rear porch columns and balustrades will be painted from the top of the pillars down —excludes
the roof and the floor(1 coat primer and 1 coat finish)
PAINTING COLORS

7/29/2021
Clapboards (Green): Behr Peppergrass N350-6 with Satin Enamel finish. This color matches what is on the
house now. The sheen level is one up from Flat which is currently on most, but not all, of the exterior walls. We
have been advised that Satin Enamel is more durable and dirt-resistant than Flat and that it will resist moisture,
fading and stains. This will be a great improvement over the current faded, discolored and multi-hued south wall.
Walls will receive one full coat of primer and one full coat of color. Going forward, all green wall paint will have the
Satin Enamel.
Trim (Cream): Behr Mourning Dove OR-W12
All surfaces will be given one coat of primer and one coat of paint
Statement of Conditions:Replace clapboards and in-kind painting
Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff through permitting system as final
sign-off is required to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
