ChimneySaver Water-Base Water Repellent Product Data Sheet ©2015 SaverSystems MANUFACTURER: SaverSystems Richmond, IN 47374 800-860-6327 Fax: 765-935-4999 www.chimneysaver.com DESCRIPTION ChimneySaver Water-Base Water Repellent is a penetrating, V.O.C. compliant, water repellent which contains a proprietary modified siloxane. This water-based siloxane penetrates masonry up to 1/4 inch or more depending on surface porosity and moisture content at the time of application. ChimneySaver Water-Base Water Repellent reacts with the minerals in masonry in the presence of ultraviolet light and atmospheric moisture. This reaction forms strong permanent bonds beneath the surface and creates a hydrophobic zone that prevents water molecules from penetrating, while allowing free migration of water vapors. The chemical bonds formed in this process allow ChimneySaver Water-Base Water Repellent to become an integral part of the substrate and provide long term water repellent protection. USES ChimneySaver Water-Base Water Repellent protects most vertical and horizontal exterior, above-grade masonry surfaces including: Adobe; Architectural Concrete, Precast or Cast-in- Place; Clay Brick; Mortars; Natural Stone; Limestone; Granite; Sandstone; Terra Cotta; Exposed Aggregate Products; Portland Cement Stuccos and Concrete Masonry Units. Natural substrate color and surface textures are unaffected, with little or no gloss created. Slight darkening may occur on dense surfaces. Testing is recommended before treating any surface to ensure desired results. Surfaces treated with ChimneySaver Water-Base Water Repellent may be painted with a high quality oil-based paint. Testing is always necessary to ensure adhesion and compatibility. ADVANTAGES 10 Year Warranty Non-Glossy 100% Vapor Permeable Efflorescence/Stain Protection Protects against water intrusion from wind-driven rain Mildew/Fungus Resistant Freeze-Thaw Protection Complies with all known national, state, and district AIM VOC regulations DIRECTIONS FOR USE Before use, read all directions for preparation, application, and safety information. Always test each type of surface before application for suitability and desired results before proceeding with general application. Weather Conditions: Surface and air temperatures should be a minimum of 40°F and a maximum of 100° F for three hours following application. Do not apply to frozen or frost covered surfaces. Do not apply to wet or water saturated surfaces, or when rainfall is expected within six hours unless adequate protection with a polyethylene film, or its equivalent, is provided. Limitations: Do not use on asphalt-based material and surfaces. Do not apply to painted or glazed brick or tiles. This product is not intended for interior use or for resistance to hydrostatic pressures. Surface Preparation: Application must be to clean, structurally sound, visibly dry surfaces. Remove dust, dirt, grease, oils, efflorescence, wax, curing compounds, coatings or other foreign matter that might block or interfere with product penetration. For best results, cure new masonry a minimum of 28 days, and at least 72 hours after repairs or tuck pointing before applying product. Test a small area of surface before starting general application to assure desired results and coverage rates. Make all necessary repairs, including defects, which allow water to enter the wall assembly such as: structural cracks, faulty roofing, copings, flashings, expansion joints, mortar joints and sealants. Protect all adjacent glossy surfaces, paint films, windows, plant life, asphalt based material and all other non-targeted surfaces from overspray and run-down. APPLICATION Vertical: Agitate before using. Apply from bottom up using a low-pressure sprayer (10-25 psi) with a fan type nozzle, or by roller with a minimum 3/8 inch nap. Flood surface until excess runs down six to eight inches below spray or roller pattern. For maximum penetration and desired coverage rates, a wet on wet application is recommended; retreat within three to five minutes after initial application. A wet treated surface may be agitated with a soft bristle scrub brush to ensure more even distribution and greater penetration. Remove inadvertent overspray from non-target surfaces immediately with soap and water. Horizontal: Agitate before using. Apply a single application with low pressure sprayer, or a deep nap roller so that surface remains wet for two to three minutes before final absorption. Avoid puddling or ponding; brush or broom to spread material until it thoroughly penetrates the surface. Block all drains and use absorptive coverings to contain run-off of excess material. Use soap and water to remove inadvertent overspray from non-target surfaces as soon as possible. Drying time: Two to six hours, depending on temperature and humidity. Note: Product may cause darkening of pre-existing stains on masonry or concrete. Coverage: Coverage rates will typically range from 90-150 sq. feet per gallon depending upon surface porosity. See coverage rate section. Do not thin product. CLEAN UP Thoroughly rinse spray equipment with clean water. Clean rollers with soap and water. Rinse thoroughly. CAUTIONS Keep out of reach of children. Respiratory protection is not generally required during normal use and handling. Avoid breathing mists; the need for respiratory protection (NIOSH approved) should be evaluated if material is sprayed in poorly ventilated areas. The use of protective gloves and chemical splash goggles is recommended. Wash thoroughly after handling. Caution: Accumulation of product on ladders, scaffolding, etc. may result in a slippery surface. FIRST AID If inhaled: Assure fresh air breathing. Allow the victim to rest. If swallowed: Rinse mouth. Obtain emergency medical attention. For skin contact: Rinse using water. For eye contact: Immediately flush eyes thoroughly with water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Obtain medical attention if pain, blinking or redness persist.
