It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:

as described below does not involve an exterior architectural feature or involves a feature covered by the
exemptions or limitations set forth in the Historic District's Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic
Districts Ordinance.

Description of Work Proposed:
▪ Inkind replacement of existing fencing with new wood fencing:
o Fencing on southeast property line to be replaced with capped flatboard fence. Cap to replicate
cap on fence of adjacent property (existing fence at 384 Essex Street has lost its original cap).
New fence to match all other details including location, height and board width.
o Fencing at corner of property along Flint Street to be replicated with flat board fence with
lattice top. Fence to be in wood and replicate all details including location, design, height and
board width.
▪ New fencing to be painted to match existing fence colors.
There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or outward appearance. Non-applicable
due to being in-kind replacement and not being visible from a public way.
Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign-off is required
to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
