It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:

as described below does not involve an exterior architectural feature or involves a feature covered by the
exemptions or limitations set forth in the Historic District's Act (M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic
Districts Ordinance.

Description of Work Proposed:
▪ In-kind repair and/or replacement of deteriorated wood trim and clapboards on dormers and
fascia. Repaint to match existing colors: Benjamin Moore Federal Gold (body) and Benjamin
Moore Plymouth Beige (trim). There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or
outward appearance. Non-applicable due to being in-kind repairs.
▪ In-kind replacement of clapboard on rear elevation with new cedar clapboards. Repaint to match
existing body color. There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or outward
appearance. Non-applicable due to being in-kind repairs.
▪ In-kind repairs to front and center chimneys:
o Repoint front chimney with in-kind replacement of spalled bricks; and
o Repoint lower half of center chimney and rebuild upper portion of chimney.
Mortar to be type N mortar: 1/1/6 mix (Portland cement, hydrated lime and sand) to match
existing color, grain size, texture and pointing technique. New brick to match existing brick as
closely as possible. There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or outward
appearance. Non-applicable due to being in-kind repairs.
▪ NOTE: Replacement of gutters will be reviewed during a public hearing at the Commission
meeting on August 5, 2020.
Upon completion of above work, please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign-off is required
to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
