Proposed work is a like-for-like repair-or-replace carpentry project for the faqade of the house. As shown by the attached photos, the work is badly needed. The two owners of this two-unit condominium (the other owner is Andrew Greer) have wanted to do this work for some time and have DOW coordinated the scope, timing and funding of the work and would like to move forward. The carpenter engaged for the work is known to both owners and has been chosen for his expertise and his sensitivity to historical structures, materials and techniques. The only element that is new is the proposed installation of house wrap, which obviously will not affect the appearance of the finished project in any way.The owners are contemplating a change of house color, but that is not part of this application. No color has yet been chosen and the work will be done by a different contractor in any case. Part of the issue with resolving the color is that two adjacent buildings,359 and 360 Essex, are currently or soon will be repainted and the owners are seeking to coordinate the choice of colors with the owners of the neighboring properties. The work will affect the facade of the main structure (including the 3 dormers),the east wall of the main structure, and the street-facing wall of the 19th-century addition that is attached to the east wall of the main structure. All three walls are visible in the first attached photo.
