Our current gas furnace has reached end of life and we are currently without heat. When our HVAC contractor came out to give us quotes, they informed us that simply replacing the gas furnace is not an option due to improperly installed duct work, which contributed to the failure of the current system and if left as is, would compromise not just the efficiency but the efficacy of a new gas furnace. To replace the existing ductwork and install a new gas furnace would cost approximately $30,000. It should also be noted that if we were to replace the existing gas furnace, this would require two 3ft PVC venting pipes to be placed on the back of our home as well as moderate construction/demolition in the interior of our home. The contractor recommended the installation of a high efficiency ductless heating and cooling system. We initially rejected this option because we did not want any visible pipes on the outside of our antique home but after expressing our concerns, we were able to come to a solution in which all line sets would be run out of the back of our home to a condensor also placed at the back of our home, ensuring none of the unit would be visible to Derby Street. These lines sets, which are already less conspicuous than the PVC venting pipes for a gas furnace, will be painted the same color as the home when we repaint, making them even more seamless. This option was a bit more complex and costly but would preserve the aestethics of our home. Due to these factors, and the placement of the line sets and condensor which will not be visible to Derby St., we request a certificate of non-applicability.
