This application is for the approval of a replacement roof for the Cotting-Smith carriage barn and rear service ell of the main house. Both roofs are curently fitted with three-tab asphalt shingles,which on both structures has exceeded its service life and badly failing. We would like to replace both roofs with a materials change from asphalt to slate. The slate will be 18"x 10" North Country "unfading black"tiles. This is exactly the same material that the Historic Commission has approved for the main roof of the Assembly House structure and also the Ropes Mansion in the recent past.As sample will be provided at the November 20 Historical Commission hearing. The new slate will be applied over an underlaymeent of Grage Ice and Water Shield. The hips will be flashed in 20-oz copper and bedded in flashing cement.All fasteners will be copper.
