Through a site inspection and review by preservation professionals, the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the carriage barn at 6 Federal Court is structurally unsound and
cannot be restored and hereby votes to approve a Certificate of Hardship to demolish the outbuilding with the following conditions:
Submission of a demolition plan for the carriage barn prior to the issuance of a demolition permit;
Evaluate foundation of carriage barn to determine if foundation can be retained intact and stabilized. If it is determined that foundation can be retained, owner shall preserve foundation
walls, fill opening, and incorporate walls into landscape design;
Submission of a landscape plan for the property. Landscape work to be completed within xx months/years;
Prior to demolition, owner to document carriage barn through measured drawings and photographs, utilizing previously prepared measured drawings by Staley McDermet, architect, and Structures
North, engineers (documents to be supplied by City);
Salvage all possible materials/elements from carriage barn and store on site for possible reconstruction of carriage barn at a later date; and
Work with neighboring property owners to determine the need for and design of a new property boundary fence.
