We request approval to replace the current side-facing, second-story door to an unprotected roof with a window that conforms to historic guidelines. The current door leads onto an unprotected flat roof, an in-kind replacement causes an obvious safety concern falling(no contractor would agree to such a safety code violation). Moreover, the sash of the current door has significant decay and led to water intake during recent winter storms(water infiltrated the wood sash and damaged the wood in between the first and second floors). We will replace the door with a window that features of previously-approved windows as per McIntire District guidelines (wood frame, 7/8"muntins with spacers,no reflective glass in panes, etc.). Please see attached for window description. Marvin Windows representative Reed Rappoli, a Salem historic district resident,has kindly offered to discuss details further and I have included his contact information in the attached. The window is measured to fit the width of current rough opening. The window will begin 18 inches off of the floor(contractor-recommended minimum), and sized to match the top of the current frame.
