Barn Project-53 Summer Street
Description of Work Proposed
• Disassemble existing structure to salvage and reclaim all usable materials
• Install fieldstone foundation
• Install fieldstone retaining wall along rear property line
• Rebuild the structure with original salvageable material with proposed
design improvements:
➢ Match roofing material to main structure (GAF Slateline in Antique
Slate, Commission approved for main home and barn in 2015)
➢ Extend height of barn to R2 Zoning allowances and add dormer (see
elevation drawings and mood board)
➢ Replace plywood barn doors (see mood board ideas)
➢ Replace shingle siding on the front of barn to use uniform clapboard
on all four sides with a 4-inch reveal,which what was on the original
structure (see photo)
➢ "flip'existing High Street facade with existing 55 Summer Street
facade to be able to use side entrance door(currently rendered
unusable due to fence and proximity to property line)
➢ Install windows in boarded-up spaces to match main structure (Pella
Architect Series with traditional wood, 7/8 muntons, 6/6 ILT,
Commission approved for main structure in 2015)
➢ Extend length of barn towards Summer Street from existing 20.5 feet
to 25 feet
