1.New Asphalt Shingle Roof on Main part of the house. The shingles will match original Shingle 3- Tab
2.New Rubber Roof on back part of the house- (Will match what is already there)
3.New Chimney Remove the chimney from the roof top; Rebuild new chimney with new bricks matching the
original. Repoint new chimney with a mix of 5 sand, 1 light dragon and 1/2 lime.
Install new fuel in the chimney; Install new chimney cap; Wash with magic masonry detergent.
(Brick will match what is originally there)
All of the work we are having done is "in kind", and matches the existing in terms of design, materials,
dimensions, color and outward appearance.

It is hereby certified that the Salem Historical Commission has determined that the proposed:

as described below does not involve an exterior architectural teature or involves a feature covered by the
exemptions or limitations set forth in the Historic District's Act(M.G.L. Ch. 40C) and the Salem Historic
Districts Ordinance.

Description of Work Proposed:
• Replace existing 3 tab shingle roof inkind to match existing color;
• Replace existing rubber roof on back ell to match existing; and
• Reconstruct chimney from roofline. Reuse existing brick or replace with in-kind brick to match
color, dimension, bond pattern, and outward appearance. Mortar to be type N mortar: 11116 mix
(Portland cement, hydrated lime and sand) to match existing color, grain size, texture and
pointing technique.
NOTE: Request to install new chimn_ev c_at?_will be considered at the Commission meeting,; on
September 5,2018. -
There will be no changes in color, material, design, location or outward appearance. Non-applicable
due to being in-kind repair.
Upon completion of above work,please notify Historical Commission staff as final sign-off is required
to document compliance with this Certificate and approved plans.
