Publications * Manufacturer's Listed and Approved Design/Installation/Maintenance Manuals 3 - Design Responsibility for Fire Protection Systems: * Shop drawings developed by Comprehensive Fire Protection LLC. * Fire Alarm by others * Kitchen/Cooking suppression by others * Underground fire service by others * Manual suppression systems by others * Smoke control systems by others 4 - Fire Protection Systems to be installed: The fire protection project consists of installing new sprinklers and pipe in a new building. The system riser consists of a 6" Storz FDC, 6" wet riser for standpipes, 3" wet riser for the garage level, 6" water supply, and all other required valves and fittings. 5 — Design Methodology: Fire Sprinkler System Design Parameters: * System(s) design to be per NFPA 13 (2013), local and State code. * Sprinklers on 1st through 3rd floors to be residential type, white coated, recessed pendents. * Sprinklers on garage level and light hazard areas to be to be commercial type pendants. * Sprinklers in concealed spaces to be Tyco CC2 sprinklers. * Sprinklers in residential areas can be spaced to a maximum of 16x16. * Sprinklers in light hazard areas can be spaced to a maximum of 150 SQFT * Sprinklers in combustible concealed spaces can be spaced to a maximum of 12x12. * Sprinklers in ordinary hazard areas can be spaced to a maximum of 120 SQFT. * Calculation area within dwelling units to be the most hydraulically demanding 4 sprinklers calculated to .10 density over the actual area protected. * Calculation of sprinklers in the storage/retail/garage to be at a density of .20 over 900 sqft using the quick response area reduction allowance. * Calculation of sprinklers in the community room to be at a density of .10 over 900 sqft using the quick response area reduction allowance. * Calculation of sprinklers in concealed spaces to be at a density of .10 over 1000 sqft per manufacturer's specifications. * Dry sprinklers are installed to protect the garage level (except for retail area) and to protect exterior projections. * Install a floor control assembly for each floor unit as shown. * Install steel schedule 10 with grooved fittings or steel schedule 40 with threaded fittings on the garage level. * Install cpvc sprinkler pipe on levels 1-3. CODE REFERENCES: * Design and installation to conform to NFPA 13, 2013 editions. * Design and installation to conform to State Code, Local Fire and Building Departments. 6 - Special considerations and descriptions: * No official code interpretations. * No official waivers or variances. 7 - Sequence of operation: * Fire sprinkler activates. * Water starts flowing and activates the water flow switch. * Water flow switch sends alarm signal to alarm panel and Fire Department. * Building alarm is activated. 8 - Testing criteria: * Tests will be conducted to the satisfaction of local authorities. * Tests to be set up and scheduled by the contractor. * Water will be flowed from the inspector's test valve. * Pipes to be pressure tested to 200 psi for two hours. * All alarm and tamper switches to be tested for proper activation. * Written approval of final tests to be obtained from the code official. * Required fire sprinkler and aboveground piping reports to be submitted to the code officials.
