4 - Fire Protection Systems to be installed:
This fire protection project consists of installing a new fire sprinkler system in a
new building. Equipment to be installed per NFPA 13D and listed for fire protection
use. Equipment includes: pipe, sprinklers, standpipes, gate valves, butterfly
valves, water flow switches, gages, water supply (by others), backflow preventer,
hangers and a 4" FDC.
5 – Design Methodology:
Fire sprinkler system and standpipe system to be supplied by the the municipal
supply. Fire sprinkler pipe 2" and larger to be steel schedule 10 with mechanical
fittings. Pipe 1-1/2" and smaller to be steel schedule 40 with threaded or grooved
fittings. Residential area piping to be CPVC. Exposed CPVC piping will not be
accepted. Each Townhouse is zoned separately.
Residential pendents are calculated per NFPA 13D at a spacing of 16 x 16 for 2
sprinklers at 13 gpm each.
The Garage is protected by K=5.6 dry pendents spaced per Light Hazard requirements.
Water supply: Static = 82 psi Residual = 66 psi Flow = 1007 gpm (2/8/2019) by
Williams & Sparages.

6 - Special considerations and descriptions:
* No official code interpretations.

7 - Sequence of operation:
* Fire sprinkler activates.
* Water starts flowing and activates the unit water flow switch and the main flow
switch.
* Water flow switch sends alarm signal to alarm panel and Fire Department.
* Building alarm is activated.
8 - Testing criteria:
* Tests will be conducted to the satisfaction of local authorities.
* Tests to be set up and scheduled by the contractor.
* Water will be flowed from the inspector's test valve.
* Pipes to be pressure tested to 200 psi for two hours.
* All alarm and tamper switches to be tested for proper activation.
* Written approval of final tests to be obtained from the code official.
* Required fire sprinkler and aboveground piping reports to be submitted to the
code officials.
General Notes:
* HANGER INSTALLATION AND SPACING SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH N.F.P.A. #13
* ALL EQUIPMENT TO BE UL LISTED FOR FIRE PROTECTION USE.
* FIELD FOREMAN TO VERIFY LOCATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURE SPRINKLERS
AND INSTALL HIGH TEMPERATURE SPRINKLERS IN ACCORDANCE WITH N.F.P.A. #13
* IF REQUIRED, SLEEVES THROUGH WALLS AND FLOORS SHALL BE SCH. 10 LW. GALVANIZED
AND PACKED WITH NONCOMBUSTIBLE, SMOKE PROOF, AND WATERPROOF FIRE SEALANT.
* OWNER SHALL PROVIDE ADEQUATE HEAT IN ALL AREAS ENCLOSING WET TYPE
SPRINKLER PIPING TO PREVENT FREEZING AND FAILURE OF AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEMS.
