Dust Migration Plan
For
R.J. Kelly Co., Inc.
20 Colonial Rd, Salem Ma
Project Introduction
The scope of work includes the demolition of two freestanding single-story buildings. Both
buildings reside upon a fenced commercial property consisting of 20,25,30 and 40 Colonial rd, Salem
MA. The largest of the buildings, 20 Colonial rd, is being renovated currently and will remain on the site.
The two smaller buildings, 25 and 30 Colonial Rd are to be removed. 25 Colonial is a 3,528 sf wood
framed with a brick façade and tar and gravel roof. 30 Colonial is a 2,976 sf metal building with no
interior finishes or insulation, metal panel siding and roof. Both buildings have poured concrete
foundations which are also to be removed. This portion of the site contains an AUL.
Dust Control
The creation of dust is inherent to the demolition process. Excess dust is typically controlled to
reasonable levels such that a hazard or nuisance is not created for the workers and the surrounding
area. Comprehensive dust control measures will include preventing the generation of dust whenever
possible, using acceptable dust control procedures when dust is generated. The use of planned,
controlled demolition techniques prescribed herein will help to reduce the overall amount of fugitive
dust created during the demolition process.

Dust Prevention
Weather conditions will be monitored regularly for temperature, relative wind speed (low, medium,
high) and general direction. Weather conditions will also be monitored for exceptionally high winds or
unusually dry conditions, which may contribute to dust generation and migration. Heavy equipment will
be confined to the demolition work area in an attempt to minimize the migration of dust. Entrances,
exits and roadways in areas adjacent to the work area will be kept clean of dirt and demolition
materials.
Dust Control Procedures
Dust control procedures will be utilized for all demolition / deconstruction work areas, debris stockpiles,
and all other applicable work areas. Fugitive airborne dust will be suppressed as necessary by sweeping
of loose particles or by spraying the materials with an adequate amount of water to prevent the
creation of dust particles. Water will be obtained from the adjacent buildings (20 Colonial rd). Water
will be used to sporadically, or continuously as necessary, wet demolition areas and building surfaces.
Bare ground and the surrounding soil will be sprayed to suppress dust generated at ground level. The
use of excessive amounts of water will be avoided to prevent hazardous, slippery, or other objectionable
conditions such as ponding, flooding, freezing, mud, or runoff that could adversely affect the work area
or adjacent facilities. The buildings will be dismantled in smaller pieces to prevent large sections of the
building from coming down at one time. Equipment performing the work will primarily be positioned
upon the existing asphalt parking lot to limit the ground and building materials disturbance. Because
this site contains an AUL a RAM plan will be in place prior to disturbing the foundations and adjacent
soils.
